High Five for Friday!

Good morning!

So I decided to link up this Friday with Lauren over at Lauren Elizabeth. She has a fashion blog that I found through her sister, Kate, over at The Small Things Blog. You should check them both out!

Anyway, I loved the idea of looking back on the week and finding your top 5 highlights.

1. I had a few friends come into town for the Virginia Wine Expo, and from what I can remember I think we had a pretty good time. ;) I'm actually pretty upset that we didn't take any pictures! Oh well, guess we'll have to go again next year! If you're not from around this area, the expo is where a bunch of Virginia wineries come and let you sample their wines. It's over 350 wines to sample and a great time!

2/27: Things I'm Lovin' Thursday

Let's get back into the swing of things, shall we?

So today will be a little about skin care. Who doesn't love a good recommendation for skin care? 

Just to get a few items out of the way - my skin is the exact definition of combination. I tend to get an oily T-zone and then my cheeks and forehead get dry. Especially during the winter. Fun.

So, the three items I have are some things that I've been using for the past few months and I think are slowly becoming staples in my routine. 

The first up is a facial scrub that I received in a Birchbox a few months back. If you have not heard of Birchbox, it's a subscription service that is $10/month and you receive a box of about 4-6 "lifestyle" samples to try. I got the subscription back in June for my birthday and have really enjoyed this little gift that keeps on givin'. ;)

Key West for salad.

I'm baaaaackkkk!

Lot's going on over here. I started a new job, we've done some traveling and I've decided that 2014 is going to be the year we do some upgrades our house! So you'll probably be seeing a few post in the future about that. 2014's gonna be a busy year!

As for our first trip of 2014! We went to Key West, FL with a bunch of our college friends for two of our very good friends wedding. It was a great time and we really liked Key West and it was such a pleasure to go with our friends since the hubby-to-be had be traveling there with his family for many years.

Bruschetta Chicken

Perfect Pesto

Heyyyy!

So the sweet hubs and I have been trying to eat a little healthier and slow down a little on the carbs. One of our favorite meals is pesto chicken which I make a lot during the summer when my garden is growing tons and tons of fresh basil. However, my garden is sad and shriveled up right now, but the grocery store saved the day! :)

This pesto is good on shrimp, chicken - really anything! I have also used it with some extra olive oil with a chunk of fresh baked multi-grain baguette. YUMMY!



Perfect Pesto
Servings: 2-4
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: none (except the pine nuts toasting - that takes a few minutes)

Ingredients:
2 cups of fresh sweet basil
1 cup of fresh flat leaf parsley
1/2 cup of pine nuts
2 garlic cloves
1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
olive oil
salt
pepper



Toast the pine nuts in a pan over medium heat until lightly browned. In a large food processor, combine the basil, parsley, cooled pine nuts, garlic cloves, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and a little bit of olive oil. Mix the mixture until it resembles a crumbly-paste.

You can add more olive oil to make it more of a smooth paste if you're going to use it for chicken or something like that. This freezes great and I make a bunch with my basil in the summer and freeze it to use throughout the winter. I hope you all enjoy - it's delicious and adds a great fresh taste to a lot of dishes.
